In June 2024, the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (the "Commission") will be hosting two public listening sessions to hear community input on how California funds mental health services for K-12 students in Riverside County. The Commission is partnering with the University of California Riverside to host these two events in our community.

These townhall listening sessions will help to inform the Commission as it works to implement the Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA) in Riverside County. The MHSSA provides grants for partnerships between county mental health agencies and local education agencies to deliver school-based mental health services to young people and their families. These partnerships support outreach to identify early signs of unmet mental health needs, reduce stigma and discrimination, and prevent unmet mental health needs from becoming severe and disabling.

  • What is a listening session? A listening session is an opportunity for the Commission to hear the diverse perspectives and priorities of our community as they administer programs that fund K-12 mental health services.
  • When? The listening sessions will be held online on June 4 from 3:00-4:30 PM and on June 12 from 6-7:00 PM
  • Where? These listening sessions will make use of a new, online public meeting platform called Prytaneum, which is being developed by the TeCD-Lab at UCR. There is no in-person site for the session; the event is online using Prytaneum.
  • Why? The MHSOAC is the state commission that implements the Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA). No policies or agency decisions will be made at this meeting. Instead, this listening session will help the Commission understand the perspectives and priorities of the community. Your perspectives are essential to better support our students.
