June 2024 Listening Sessions - MHSSA

We invite you to participate in a townhall listening session.

In June, UCR will be hosting two public listening sessions to hear community input on how California funds mental health services for K-12 students in Riverside County.

These townhall listening sessions will help to inform the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission as it works to implement the Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA) in Riverside County. The MHSSA provides grants for partnerships between county mental health agencies and local education agencies to deliver school-based mental health services to young people and their families. These partnerships support outreach to identify early signs of unmet mental health needs, reduce stigma and discrimination, and prevent unmet mental health needs from becoming severe and disabling.

  • What is a listening session? A listening session is an opportunity for public officials to hear the diverse perspectives of our community on important policy topics.
  • When? The listening sessions will be held online on June 4 from 3:00-4:30 PM and on June 12 from 6-7:00 PM. These listening sessions will make use of a new, online public meeting platform called Prytaneum, which is being developed by the TeCD-Lab at UCR.
  • How? You need to register at the event website to attend either or both events.
    • To attend the listening session on June 4, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, please click on this link to register for the meeting. You will use that same link to attend the online listening session.
    • To attend the listening session on June 12, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, please click on this link to register for the meeting. You will use that same link to attend the online listening session.
    • You can register for the event at any time. There is no payment for attending a listening session.
    • If you wish to sign up for email notifications and reminders, please complete the form at this link.
  • Why? The MHSOAC is the state commission that implements the Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA). The Act provides grants for partnerships between county mental health agencies and local education agencies to deliver school-based mental health services to students and their families. No policies or agency decisions will be made at this meeting. This listening session will help the Commission understand the perspectives and priorities of the community. Your perspectives are essential to better support our students.

Again, if you wish to receive email notifications and reminders about these events, please complete this form.

If you have any questions about the listening sessions, or if you received a survey related to the listening sessions and you have a question about that, please contact the project team at MHSSAJune2024@gmail.com
